Congratulations to the entire research team — Dr. Anousha Sohail, Dr. Wanmai Srisuwannano (CMU), Dr. Sopon Butcha (TU), Prof. Dr. Alexander Kuhn, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Chularat Wattanakit, on our recent article in Accounts of Chemical Research, published as part of the special issue "Globalizing Electroorganic Synthesis".
Title : Electrochemically Supported Asymmetric Synthesis on Chiral Encoded Pt and Pt−Ir Surfaces Summary
This Account reviews the team's work on chiral-encoded mesoporous metal surfaces produced by electrodeposition as a platform for asymmetric synthesis. Using lyotropic liquid-crystal templating and chiral molecular imprinting, Pt and Pt−Ir electrodes get built-in chiral recognition sites that enable ligand-free enantioselective transformations. These materials achieve up to 95% enantiomeric excess with excellent durability in both electrosynthesis and heterogeneous catalysis of pharmaceutically relevant compounds, and they operate in flow-based systems. The Account also covers ways to boost selectivity, such as pulsed electrosynthesis and self-assembled monolayer protection. It also describes self-propelled chiral metal microswimmers that combine motion with enantioselective catalysis. Together, these results establish chiral-imprinted metals as a versatile concept for sustainable asymmetric synthesis.
